The First Interview

I was recently interviewed for the New Books Network’s New Books in Music podcast by author, Bradley Morgan. I’m told that it’s not nearly as cringe as I have made it out to be. Bradley was brilliant, but my least favorite sound is that of my own voice.

I was on the radio for a while (shout-out to KMHD), and I was taught that the only way to really get better is to listen to yourself. You have to listen to your voice, listen to your breath, your energy, your excitement, and then make corrections as needed. I hosted a weekly show during the morning drive-time, which I pre-recorded. That meant that I could actually drive work while listening to myself (do not recommend). More often than not, I would just listen to a recording later. I have since lost all of those recordings, so I don’t remember if I ever succeeded in sounding good on the radio.

I say all this because I’m trying to lower expectations for this interview. I haven’t listened to it, but maybe a little of that radio training is still in there?

Anyway, have a listen if you’d like, and maybe pick up a copy of Soul-Folk, out October 31.
